Sohma Ayame from Fruits Basket

Made In. September 2005
Debuted. Ani-Magic 2005
Info. Fruits Basket is love! I watched Fruits Basket for the first time at my first anime convention, Anime Los Angeles 2005, and I thought it was really cute! Shortly afterwards, my friend bought the whole series and loaned it to me. I watched the entire thing in one sitting, I loved it so much!!! Yuki is my favorite character and I had decided to cosplay as him, but I really wanted G-Mal to cosplay something from Furuba too since we had had so much fun cosplaying from the same series in the past. Somehow, SOMEHOW, I convinced him that he would make a great Ayame--it would be so cool if he could cosplay as my big brother, and Ayame is so much taller than Yuki, so it would be perfect!

You might not believe it, but Ayame's red jacket was a HUGE pain to make. The fabric was a gorgeous red velveteen, and it was lined with an exquisite red brocade, and I almost ruined the jacket when I made a terrible error on the sleeve and ran out of fabric! D: I did my best to fix my error, but the jacket never fit very well because of it. OH WELL, JUST LOOK AT THE ACCURATE JOB I DID ON THE EDGING OF THE JACKET AND THE PRETTY LINING. That ought to distract you, heh heh heh...

I think the best part about G-Mal cosplaying as Ayame was how in-character he got while in costume. G-Mal is a pretty reserved person, but he TOTALLY hammed it up with the ladies (and the men at Yaoi-Con) as the flamboyant fruitcake that Ayame is. Me and G-Mal were joined first by Jinyo as Shigure at Ani-Magic 2005, and then Solaria, Arkadia and Scruffy Rebel added to our group of half-transformed zodiac animals as Rin, Hatsuharu and Kagura at Anime Los Angeles 2006. Easily the most fun we had cosplaying as part of a group!
