Belldandy from Ah! My Goddess

Info. Ah! My Goddess was one of the first anime I ever watched, and I loved it from the start. The show is fun and unique, and the characters are all lovable (even the villains!). While some people say Belldandy has zero personality, I completely disagree! Her unconditional love and support for Keichii and her sisters is the reason Belldandy is my favorite character! Long before I ever cosplayed, I remember wanting to make a Belldandy costume--that's how much I loved A!MG.

In 2005, a 26-episode Ah! My Goddess anime came out (in 1991 there was a 5 episode OVA; in 2000, an A!MG movie was released), and it really rekindled my love for A!MG. At this point in my cosplaying, I already had several costumes under my belt and was becoming more and more confident in my skills as a seamstress, so I decided to attempt Belldandy's famous blue dress. I tried really hard to do a professional-looking job on this costume, and I'm very proud of how well it came out. Something that attracted to me to this costume was the fact that Belldandy often has wings, and I was dying to make a costume with wings! I didn't really feel like I could make Bell's wings look the way they look in the anime completely out of turkey feathers (some of Bell's feathers are way bigger than any turkey feather I've seen), so I asked my friend and master propmaker Lionel for advice. He suggested I go to my local plastic supply shop and see what was available; I did so, and in the end constructed my wings out of PVC foam combined with real turkey feathers. I'm very happy with how they turned out!
