Info. If you've ever seen Gankutsuou, you know that the animation is a mind trip. The series itself is pretty good (if you don't mind the liberties they took changing the story), and when we found out some of our friends were doing costumes from it, me and G-Mal thought it would be fun and challenging to attempt costumes from the show. More and more of our friends signed up to do costumes from it, and we ended up with a huge group of 9 people!

One of the most fun things about Gankutsuou cosplay is the fabric shopping! Anything wildly printed and colorful is appropriate! It can also be one of the hardest things, because it can be difficult to find a specific pattern when you're looking for it. In G-Mal's case, we got extremely lucky when we found an upholstry fabric nearly identical to the pattern on de Morcerf's suit. The fabric was a more blue than seen in the artwork, but it was gorgeous out in the sunlight and I don't think we would have gotten any closer in finding the perfect pattern, so we went with it.

We found a wig at a local wig store that had been sitting out in the display case in the sun for apparently a very long time, because it was washed out and the color was uneven in certain places. However, it worked perfectly to achieve the funky color and design of de Morcerf's hair! We used makeup to darken G-Mal's skin, and for some reason it made it very difficult for people to recognize him! We joked that he was G-Mal's Mediterranean evil twin. XD The best part of the costume IMO is the fact that G-Mal is covered head to toe in furniture fabric, and we are always laughing about how somewhere in the world there is probably a matching couch to G-Mal's suit!
