Jagged (Jag) Fel from Star Wars: The New Jedi Order

Info. The character of Jag Fel was introduced in the Star Wars Expanded Universe series The New Jedi Order and became a dynamic contrast to Jaina Solo's character. Jag brought a new level of characterization to the table as a human raised among the cold and calculating Chiss. He is the complete opposite of Jaina, but his skill as a fighter pilot is equal to (and sometimes surpasses) Jaina's. This competitiveness between the two initally causes some uncomfortable friction, but eventually leads to a romantic relationship.

That being said, anything and everything related to Jaina is A++++ in my book, especially a new love interest that departs entirely from her past relationships. Jag is described in the books as having dark hair and green eyes, which just so happens to be an accurate description of G-Mal! Long ago, I had thought that G-Mal would make an awesome Jag Fel, but it wasn't until Celebration IV was announced that I solidified plans to make G-Mal a Jag Fel costume. At first I was planning on having it ready for Celebration in May, but in March my friend Lionel came down to do photoshoots of friends and we were presented with a unique opportunity to take photos onboard a real aircraft carrier-turned-floating museum, so I finished G-Mal's Jag costume (as well as my black jumpsuit for my NJO Jaina costume) in time for that. The USS Midway was the perfect location for these costumes, because Jaina and Jag are both fighter pilots in the military (it's also where they fell in love!).

In terms of design and construction, I had to create a costume based almost entirely on descriptions in books. There are only a handful of photos of Jag Fel in circulation; all of them are head-shots, and none show more than the collar of his outfit (which do not match any description in the books). An entry in Wookieepedia.com describing Jag's outfit is what I ultimately based my design on--similar to an Imperial Officer uniform--as well as a photo of Jag's father, Soontir Fel, on one of the book covers. As a nod to Jag's father and his Corellian heritage, I added Corellian Bloodstripes to his pants, even though in Star Wars reality Jag could be shot dead for wearing them without earning them.
