Himura Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin
Made In. September 2004
Debuted. Akibiyori 2004
Info. Good ol' Kenshin. I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this costume to pieces. Why? Because it was my first costume, of course! Rurouni Kenshin remains to this day my favorite anime and manga series, and cosplaying as Kenshin is always, always a treat for me. I can't think of anything more fun than dressing up as my favorite character!
I love everything about this costume; the SHINY SHINY SHINY (did I mention SHINY?) kimono of pink epicness; the crappy $20 eBay wig, which was my first attempt at styling a wig (and since I failed to see the importance of a foam wig head, I simply used G-Mal's head to style it with); the store-bought hakama because I was such a blithering idiot I didn't know how to read a hakama pattern; the $34293948209384 imported zori that were 5 sizes too small but they were TOTALLY ACCURATE FTW; and of course, the amazingly gorgeous (and extremely accurate-looking, if I do say so myself) REAL Sakabatou that my dearest of dear friends Jinyo gave me on the eve of my first cosplaying convention. Every memory I have of this costume is a good one, and there are so many of them. I learned to sew on this costume. I learned to sort of style wigs on this costume. I learned how to order shit off the internet because of this costume! I never could bring myself to revamp this costume; it's all the quirks and the n00bie mistakes that make this costume have so much personality! This costume has so much love put into it, and everytime I wear it--from the early days, when it was just me and G-Mal as Sano, to now when I have all of my closest friends cosplaying Ruroken with me--it's a good time. It's heartbreaking to think this costume will have to be retired soon (OMG FRAYING), but I'll surely replace it with a new Kenshin costume! Maybe Battousai, this time around...
