Sagara Sanosuke from Rurouni Kenshin
Made In. December 2004
Debuted. Anime Los Angeles 2005
Info. After making my own Kenshin costume, it didn't take long for me to cast my eyes on G-Mal and see his potential for cosplaying a Ruroken character. While his favorite character is actually Saitou, I convinced him that he would make a better Sano (and at the time a fitted jacket was still intimidating to me). The idea of being able to take buddy pictures as Kenshin and Sano sounded like so much fun!
The costumes is riddled with n00bied errors, but for my second big sewing project Van Fanel doesn't count I thought I did a pretty decent job. I must have, since this costume is one of G-Mal's oldest and most worn and it's still holding up well. This costume was my first experience with Heat 'n Bond (thanks to Jinyo for teaching me how to use the stuff), which ended up becoming the love of my life as far as sewing materials go. I still rely on it for all of my costumes to this day, and I recommend everyone to use it at least once just to see how awesome it is and how it will save you a lot of trouble!
G-Mal and I have had a lot of good times wearing our Kenshin costumes together. One of our most memorable experiences was when Lex Lang, the American voice actor for Sanosuke (yes, we're dub fans!) signed G-Mal's Sano jacket at Anime Expo 2005! Another great experience was when the creator of Rurouni Kenshin, the great Nobuhiro Watsuki himself, made an appearance at San Diego Comic Con 2006 and told G-Mal that he looked exactly what Sanosuke would look like if he were real!
