Eternal Sailor Venus from Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon
Made In. May 2005
Debuted. FanimeCon 2005
Info. I distinctly remember telling myself that I would never be caught dead in a Sailor fuku, and yet this costume ended up being the second costume I made for myself. Go figure. At any rate, Sailor Venus was always the Sailor Senshi that I indentified with growing up, and I think deep down the reason I grew my hair so long was so that I could be a little bit more like Minako-chan. A friend of mine begged me to make a Sailor Venus costume to go with her Sailor Moon one, and I obliged under the condition that we make the Eternal Sailor fukus, since they were my favorite design. (They also are the hardest design, I quickly discovered.) I think I also was comforted by the thought that G-Mal was going to embarrass himself at least as much as I was when he agreed to do Artemis's human form.
I'm not sure what posessed me to attempt such a difficult design after I had only been sewing for a few months, but I think that one of my better (and worse) qualities is my stubborness and never fearing what I can't do. The costume certainly has numerous errors (though I'm very proud of my attention to accuracy!), but for being such a sewing n00b, I'm still proud of the job I did on this costume. Wearing it with G-Mal was such a blast, and we were defintiely overwhelmed at how popular they were (not realizing at the time that Sailormoon costumes NEVER go out of style ;D). I only wish I had done a better job constructing it, as it fell apart after only two conventions. ;_; R.I.P. Eternal Sailor Venus. LOL.
